HYPOTEČNÍ BANKA SENT STUDENTS FROM VŠE (UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS, PRAGUE) TO TAKE OUT A MORTGAGE

How to connect marketing research, client’s requirements and education support? Hypoteční banka answered this question together with students from VŠE (Marketing master’s degree specialization) in a mystery shopping project.

Hypoteční banka, together with CONFESS Research (which is cooperating with VŠE students for years), designed this project in order to check out the process of taking out the mortgage loan. Students were given a task to take out this loan in few selected banks (including Hypoteční banka) and propose some opinions on how to move this process closer to younger generation. „We wanted to take advantage of their young, fresh perspective, which could give us better understanding on how are young customers reflecting this process and what is necessary for them“ said Marie Mocková, press agent of Hypoteční banka. The research was conducted by two teams comprising of four students, who were competing in quality of final presentation.

The research was designed as mystery shopping. Members of both teams arranged meetings with mortgage bankers and intended to take out a mortgage for certain property. In case of ČSOB and Hypoteční banka, the fictional request was submitted in real (and subsequently canceled by ČSOB and Hypoteční bank). „The team was comprised by a couple simulating real partnership. They were looking for their first common housing (who were quite typical customers for mortgage specialists). However, we were surprised about different attitude of various banks to this clients“ explains Jakub Bielawski, project manager from CONFESS Research.

Management of Hypoteční banka, including managing director Jan Sadil, were observing presentation of final results, which were accepted with great acclaim: „At first we considered competition between two teams that could be rated in mystery shopping progress and quality of presentation. We have prepared a reward for the winning team, but both teams were so good that we decided to give maximum reward for all participants. We were really surprised with quality of both presentations“ said Mocková.

All students were awarded  financial and material prices, but they primarily gained highly-valued experience, which will surely come in handy in.  „This project was quite hard and demanding, but we appreciated  that we could try how does this process look in practice and work on real and meaningful project“ declared Eliška Zábská, student from VŠE. Lucie Kozáková added: „We also appreciated that we could participate in this project, those experiences are for us, students, priceless“
